Do you ever feel like you just sit around and watch kids play and there is never time to do anything you need to get done? I definitely do!
As a mother with an eight month old I feel like all I do is sit around and watch her roll around on the floor. Of course I interact with her by playing with her, singing to her, or reading her books, but that doesn’t make me feel like I’ve had a very productive day. She does take two naps a day, which is a much needed break time for me. But naps aren’t that long. By the time I take a shower, get dressed and maybe get a short nap in for myself (because we all know Moms don’t get enough sleep), the morning nap is over. Then comes afternoon nap and you think, oh I’m going to get so much done while she’s napping, but then you don’t even get half the stuff done you wanted too, or she decides to wake up early from her nap and you hardly get anything done at all.
This stage of life can be frustrating, I know. And people are always telling you it doesn’t last long, enjoy your little while they’re still little. And you sit there and think to yourself, it feels like it’s lasting FOREVER! And in that moment I agree it definitely does. But they’re right, it all goes by way too quickly.
In addition to having an 8 month old, I also have an 11 year old and a 9 year old. It’s crazy to think they’re that old already. It feels like just yesterday that they were the little baby rolling around on the floor. Now they play with their friends and do not really need their mommy to watch them much anymore. It really does go so fast. In just the blink of an eye they’re no longer babies or toddlers.
Hang in their Mommas. I know the days sometimes feel like a complete waste of time because all you feel like you did for the day was take care of a little baby and you got nothing done. But these days do not last for long and soon they will be off to school and to play with friends and they will no longer need or want you to play with them.
Know that your time of sitting on the floor with them watching them roll around is time well spent. You are creating a bond and relationship between the two of you that will last and help you both make it through the harder years to come. The messy house will still be there tomorrow along with all the never ending chores and work. So enjoy your precious time with your sweet little one.
